The result is in! Thanks everyone who voted on this weeks sketch auction. (Sorry it took me a few extra days to actually post it.)

Up for auction on my eBay store for the next week. [link]=p4634.m333.l1262

Magic players may recognize this character, but perhaps not quite as she appears here. This is one take on some of the physical manifestations of Nichol Bolas's possession.

I think I might like to refine this idea...

That's so cool. Slave of Bolas was absolutely my favorite card in terms of art for the entire block. It was desktop background for ages! This is an interesting progression of Bolas' corruption. Awesome stuff again, but then again, you only make awesome stuff =D

I've been workin' on a cocktail called Grounds for Divorce...

nice! and kinda scary id try to avoid one of those if i saw one. the orginal version of the card inspired me to make a grixis control deck xD

Again, very very cool.

I love the little cultural details; that's what made the original cross the threshold from "Very Cool Painting" to "Art Of Awesomeness +5"

An angel being dominated and crying is a powerful image. Adding in the sigils which literally translate into "All your good deeds have been undone" takes it to the next level.

Anyway, enough gushing!

The sigil shards look painful and awesome. Excellent continuation of the theme. I also like how she has the same armor, just with parasitic spikes growing out of it.
Getting a new, spiky suit of armor might have looked cooler at a glance, but I like the idea here better.

Yay for weekly sketches!

:D Oh, wow. Is this a commission from WoTC or just a side thing? Still, it's absolutely stunning. The sigil shards are an amazing addition.

Alright, let's do this over. IGNITION!

Wow. Evil Bolas is evil!

Love the evil eye. (Makes me think Eye of Ugin...)

Not official WotC stuff, just a sketch. I've got this whole story in my head about that particular character, and I thought I'd flesh some of the ideas out.

Thanks! I'm experimenting with the corruption theme here, and I'm thinking a few of the concepts are working, and a few need to be refined/rethought.

On the wings for example, I was thinking either her feathers fell out, or grew in as coarse, porcupine-like spines. (Which is what I was going for here, but I got lazy...)

I'm not sure if I'm happy with the solution of having her bald. Still thinking on that.

Another idea I might implement if I do more with this is to have the spines from the sword grow into/around her hand. Rendering it useful only for destruction.

Although, the more interesting idea now, is what would she look like if she broke free of the curse, and had time to atone and heal?
:icondragonguy42:
I noticed the wings were featherless, but I didn't get the porcupine-quill thing.

The eye is pretty creepy, and I just remembered a subtle cue from MTG Demons, where they have a glowing orb above their head. I'm not sure if that part was intentional, but it adds to the "EVIL" factor.

On the sword thing, I think perhaps adding jagged spikes near the hilt so it can't be sheathed would be a more subtle approach; just make sure the scabbard is visible somewhere for comparison...

Just some random thoughts...
Have fun plotting the next installment! :P

PS: I just saw a Zendekar spoiler, and am looking forward to that diamond-armored angel. It's hard to see the detail in such a small pic, but I'm intrigued already... :)
