Description

A New Year's Resolution that won't get wrecked every time there's a cheesecake around!

Join me in making a commitment to improve in 2016:

SketchFit!

Full blown artwork can take time.  But sketching is pretty fast.  And even tiny bits of it will greatly improve your life.  Doesn’t matter if you care to be an artist.  Doesn’t matter if it’s good.  Sketching is learning.  Sketching is thinking.  Sketching is letting your brain take a walk and look around.

If you sketch from life, you’ll see things you’ve never seen before, in even the most familiar things.  You’ll understand things on a whole new level.

And this only takes about ten minutes.

It’s effects add up, like a daily workout.  Just like a workout, it can be a bit awkward and frustrating at first.  And it’s those first few that are really hard to keep going through.  But keep at it, and you’ll get better and better.  Sketching is a workout for your brain.  Who doesn’t want a fit brain?

Join me in committing to a habit of sketching.  Doesn’t have to be a ton of time.  Ten minutes is plenty for some simple lines.  Want to go deeper?  Twenty to thirty minutes, and you’ve got shadow shapes and highlights.  Forty-five minutes, maybe an hour at first, you can finish a full value study.

Here’s my outline, but feel free to put together your own SketchFit routine.

Day 1: Animals

Day 2: Concept Sketching

Day 3: Guys

Day 4: Gals

Day 5: Concept Sketching

Day 6: Machines

Day 7: Environments

Just like a workout routine, every single day can be hard.  Even for pros who do it for a living.  Set a realistic goal, and then stick to it.  Ten minutes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, is only a half an hour a week.  But you’ll be so much better for it.
