I love magic. I play it all the time, and the art has always spoken to me.
So it's saying something that this is my favorite MTG art of all time.
The lighting, the feathers, the hair, the folds, the individual broken sigils... But best of everything is the heartbreaking sight of such a pure creature, broken and on her knees in subservience, tears streaming from her eyes. Magic art normally impresses me. This art however fills me with emotion.
Just curious~ What do you mean by "Bolas"? and do you know its meaning on spanish? n_n ahahahah~ Just a curious data Awsome drawing! I really love it =//3 its cute, sad, tragedical and a bit of action on the trama?
They are, I didn't read it so I can't say for sure if it's good or not (the "Magic: The Gathering"'s world kinda complexe with multivers which are interlaced...) By searching "magic gathering story/book" you'll find stuff on it :3 (or just go there, but I dunno if everything is here : [link])
What's great about this piece for me is that it feels like just a glimpse of a much larger story...one I personally would love to see and hear told. Who is this angel? How was she captured? What ultimately happens to her? With this one stunningly crafted image I'm already emotionally invested. Bravo!
It's from the card game Magic: The Gathering, in the set "Shards of Alara".
She's crying because her mind is being dominated by an evil overlord (named Nicol Bolas), and being forced to obey his evil will and kill the people of her land of Bant, that she protects. The end of this magical enslavement spell is a horrible, painful death. The halo of coins falling off her head is Bolas's way of showing her that she serves him now, and not the nation of Bant.
Bolas does stuff like this all the time. He's a dick like that.
